Shields Balancing
Just played a game on the new map; 2 bcs each with 3.8 k shields going at it, missiles, emp missiles, yamato, and neither could break the other.
with max fusion core ups, it seems this kind of thing is inevitable?

Re: Shields Balancing
My plan is to add more and bigger guns. Shields doesn't seem overpowered to me, but I'm open to suggestions. Shield boost will probably get some kind of nerf in the near future.
Re: Shields Balancing
There are ways to deal with this as it is. Just firing guns isn't it though...

Re: Shields Balancing
Well, shields in WC3 can be taken out by an un-upgraded LASER turret, rapid fire against it does serious damage over time and quickly takes down the shields(probably unupgraded shields, but they were at 100%+only 1 turret was firing). There should be a sniper weapon, a continuous low-energy cost low-mid damage(works vs shields), an multi-shot cannon(something like in WC3), not very accurate, mid-high damage, mid-high energy cost, and the ultimate dark matter/energy cannon that costs a lot of energy, but does massive damage(still less than yamato cannon probably). Also overcharged laser that could be upgraded to do 500%(overcharge laser + 4 100% damage high GW cost upgrades)(upgrades work for only 1 shot, after that you need to overcharge the overcharged laser again).

Re: Shields Balancing
I rarely lose shields, as I attack with a LOT of power diverted to both engines and shields. Nor do I want to lose shields, as we takes serious hull damage cruising in at anywhere from 60 - 150 m/s (yes, in the BC). So I pump them to at LEAST 5k, and top out around 12 (18 with shield boost).
However, what I continue to tell people who accept the invitation and ASK, is that sabertooth missiles will hurt the shields and the core enough to force either lowering shields, or a retreat. Costly, perhaps - but effective.
The downside of the strategy is that teams I lead often expend power more quickly for the chance to catch the opponent unprepared.
There's your balance.

Re: Shields Balancing
Yeah, I feel like it is pretty balanced now. When this thread was originally made, weapons were a lot weaker and people were still figuring out how to play so with a good guy at power you could keep the shields up indefinitely.
