Random Space Occurences

l mentioned this some in my topic Real Research, but would like to go further with it here.. The idea is that something goes wrong for both players, so both have to coop with the situation. This thing that goes wrong would be randomed from the pool of things that go wrong. A few examples of what could happen (It would probably be much better if some features were implemented first, mainly boarding, so this isn't a seriously high priority): Pirate raids, kermiculite spawns not spawning, both ships having half energy gain, being near a sun and things losing life periodically, made ineffective with shields, being on a flat plain preventing ships from going > and coming out on the other side, but instead going > will just turn you around <,
or something crazy, such as aliens parked in the center killing any ships that come near, maybe with 4/5ths of the asteroids around the aliens territory, meaning you'd have to kill the aliens to get many resources. Or, something further crazy, a third battlecruiser that is piloted purely by drones, also completely removing the concept of 'Computers that act like humans', and just attacking with high shields at random, retreating at 50% or less hull. l said above that this would probably be a lower priority, as it would require much coding, and some implementing of better AI's and boarding and such. One last possibility, both teams getting an income, funded by their commanders far off on another planet. Say.. 5 BYR/sec and 1 G/5 sec, making the game go much quicker.

im not too much for randomness... sounds like something that could make some games not even worth playing.

Take you pirate raid for exemple, you have only one member on ship when it happens and get slaugthered, the other team cope better and push back the attack. and they've won. no BC fight, its just over because some random event that you cant predict or protect from happened.

At least you can ping to protect yourself from rushes, and if you fail it's your fault, not the maps.

l suppose that's true.. Didn't think about the teams being unbalanced on how many players there are. It's quite easy to leave out the suggestions like that and not implement them. Don't see how one of about 8 makes the whole entire suggestion bad. But maybe the amount of pirates would be based on how many players are on the individual BC? What l fail to see is how it would make the game.. unworthwhile play? Don't see how it would have anything negative except for making it harder on -both- players, so both have to work more to win.

I just think losing a game due to a random factor is really boring. has nothing to do with who has the most skills...

Alright, if you don't like the idea then l'd like to see what Siretu makes of it. Also, keep in mind, it would have everything to do with skill: Being able to coop with the situation. Both players would have the same situation. If one team lost due to it, then what about the other team? Don't think of it as a 'random variable', think of it as.. An annoyity. It's not like it would do something like 'Team A get's 15 pirates, team B get's 1 pirat'. Nope. It would do, in a 6v6, 3 pirates for both teams. If one team sends one guy to defend and the other sends 4, well.. It's the team that sent the one guy who's fault it would be if they lost. Also, what about resources, which usually vary in how many of each there is? Say you get 80% red, 10% blue, 10% yellow. That l'm sure has happened to most who have played CC. And if a team loses to it.. Well, then l'm sure you'd say this game is not worth playing. Right?

Resources vary, but the maps are now mirrored so it's equal for both teams.

The reason I dislike this is because it doesn't work well on a pro level, and I really enjoy the clans and pro battles and such. Coop against AI is not something I'd like to see along with the main concept.

That said, I think coop against AI as a separate mode could be a good idea, but it's far in the future.

Understandable. Don't think l'm trying to push this idea, but it could be a vote option or something. And the idea of a future gamemode? Thought of the same thing. Would like to see some CTF and DOTA and 12vAI or something?? =o
